Since my audience wanted me to make an bearded Viking axe I decided to make one and here it is.

I used beech wood from an old table from school for axe head,
handle is made out of pine and stained with Palisander tint (Brazilian rosewood) and charred with a candle :)

The technique for aged metal first to seal it with sealer (in my case it is Nitro lacquer) then spray 2 or 3 coats of silver spray and then black from far away.
When that step is done it's gonna look like cast iron, and then trick is to apply the paint thinner on piece of cloth and lightly spread it on until you are happy with look :)

I hope that you will enjoy this project and if you have any other questions please comment down bellow or you can send me a message via Instagram (Epic Workshop).

I love it, the blade looks like real metal that has seen real battles, Oden would be pleased.

Terrific prop mate! Amazing how you fit the head just like on an ordinary axe :') By the way I literally just subbed from the shield video, I'm glad I found you, love viking stuff :)

Museum quality craftsmanship, and the video was brilliant too, thanks for sharing.

You, sir, are an ARTIST. I loved the forced distress on the axe. Especially dinging up the sides with a hammer knowing the paint will pick it up. New viewer here. If you keep making videos like this one, I'm staying. Thank you.

Dude that's ridiculous! :o
just happened randomly upon this vid via youtube. I have always made my daughter wooden axe's, swords etc but talk about upping the game. that paint job is insane. Total respect good sir.

After watching your videos about the shield and the Ulfberht my morale dropped down, but it is now that it has reached its deepest level. I also like to craft wooden swords in my father's workbench, I made a claymore, a kite shield, a seax... and I put a lot of love in all of then, thinking "I made it myself, it is the best wooden sword in the world and no one I know has even dare to do this". And then, 2 days ago, while i was carving the handle of a replica of Skallagrim's messer, I discovered this channel (I use to hear music through youtube when I am working on something). I realized that I am nothing compared to you. You make them look real, even "battle-tested" and I don't even paint the sword's blade.

But today I decided to let those bad feelings fade away. You are far better than me, so be it. I didn't wanted to be the best in the first place, and now that I can learn from someone that is willingly to share this "making of" videos so I can improve my skills.

So, finally, thank you very much for posting this kind of videos. You are great.

PD.: How can I use the wood brush as you do? Mine doesn't perform as good as yours.

Thanks for doing it without power tools, I'm trying to make it and since I don't have any it really helps :)
