For the international viewers a little background info:
In this episode Karsu sings almost at the end. While the other Beste Zangers performed, I saw her sitting aside, not nearly as involved as she had been in the earlier episodes. A sort of inner gaze, a little stiff, withdrawn in herself.
When finally her turn comes, she tells a touching story about her preparation, and it turns out why she had been so withdrawn: She really wanted to adopt 'Losing You' as her contribution to Anneke. It being a beautiful song, but also because she can relate to it from her own experience, having parted ways with her lover not so long ago, the pain still very much present.
What happened: Every time she started rehearsing behind her piano she broke out crying half way through the song and therefore couldn't finish. So she was on the brink of giving up and choosing a different song. Fortunately there was a little fire in her that made her keep at it and at last she managed to sing it till the end... and decided to hold on to it.
So it was still brittle and frail in her singing experience, the memories, feelings and tears very close to emerging, when Karsu finally took the stage in Beste Zangers. Realising this, we as viewers, just like Anneke and the rest of the group, encourage her silently to keep her footing, fearing with every little quiver... (watch Marcel Fissers face at 0:33 when he hears and sees Karsu grabs control at the beginning...) but hold on she does!
And she tells us the story, which has become her story, her song. With the impact of those emotions that resonate so painfully yet beautifully in our own hearts... leaving at least me, old man, with the wish to be able to alleviate some of that pain.
Fun fact: right after the cut she gives a quick glance over her right shoulder at the band, at Marcel. I guess it was a glance expressing gratitude for the connection with that marvelous wall of support there.
Also: to Anneke her song means a different story: her long term relationship had a dip after some 20 years but the couple could work it out and emerged stronger. So she was emotionally involved in this performance but in a different way from Karsu. You can see that in her eyes: there is not so much personal suffering as there is concern for Karsu in this vulnerable rendition.

I decided to watch this season because of Anneke's participation, but i have to say that discovering Karsu's artistry made me incredibly happy. She's an amazing artist, this render of Losing You was outstanding

Ik vroeg me de hele aflevering al af waarom Karsu de blik zo naar binnen had... dat werd duidelijk. Ze zette zich schrap, maar zong toen het mooiste lied van de avond weergaloos. Wat een klankkleuren in het laag en een prachtige breekbaarheid in het hoog. Dromen maar. ❤

Wat een waanzinnige zangeres. Ik ben zo ongelofelijk fan van Anneke en dan komt Karsu met haar geweldige stem deze versie doen. Dat zij niet bekender is? Ze heeft er met mij heel veel fans bij gekregen.
