During the Franco-Prussian war, a green mare stirs up vendettas

In the village of Claquebue, a green mare is born on the Haudouin farm and becomes the mascot and the protectress. Following the death of Father Haudouin, his son Honoré takes over but jealous neighbour Maloret take his opportunity during the war of 1870, and denounces rifleman Honoré as an irregular solder. In retaliation the Prussians dishonour his mother Haudouin, Honoré then becomes obsessed with revenge on Maloret.
