My Favourite Classics | Book Recommendations 📚

Hi friends!

One of the goals I have set myself over the last few years is to read at least one classic that scares me every year. What I have found is that a lot of them are far less intimidating and much more accessible to read than I had thought.

Here are some of my favourites that I have read along the way!

A video about favourite books is always fun to watch. Thanks for doing this video. The only one I have read is "The Great Gatsby", but "Anne of Green Gables", "Dr Jekyl and mr Hyde" and "And then there were none" are on my tbr. My all time favourite classic is "Middlemarch" by George Elliot. But I haven't read many and so it may change over time.

It has been written that author Mark Twain/ Samuel Clemens didn't like when people called his books classics, and once commented.. " A classic is a book which is universally praised but nobody actually reads them." I liked your review of 'And then there were none' That might be a good candidate for my summer reading. Thanks! :)

Thank you for all the recommendations! I’m so intimidated by classics and scared I won’t enjoy them so thank you for inspiring me to start 😍💗

The Saturday Evening Post was a magazine, at one time very popular.

I love The Hobbit and Anne of Green Gables and like the sound of Frenchman's Creek and will have to go and buy that one. 🙂📚

Hi!
I'd recommend The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. It's big but you go through it very fast! I shocked myself when I finished it in a week which is very rare for me as I'm the slowest reader ever.

Notre Dame de Paris is a great read, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. For me, it was a conscious decision to avoid reading anything else in translation. So, now I"m reading the French classics in the original. It's much easier than I thought it would be, tho it is a bit time-consuming. However, time is something I have in abundance these days. Thx - enjoyed your presentation.

A glorious selection! And wow, I don't think I've ever seen someone talk about Basil & Jopsephine ever before :)
As for my own favorites: I'm a huge Virginia Woolf fan, but I do understand how those books are not everyone's cup of tea.

Classics can be intimidating- even though I have a masters degree in German and comparative literature there’s always a fear before starting reading one. 😄
You recommended a few of my faves. Have you read anything by e.t.a. Hoffmann? He was a German writer and really shaped the gothic/ dark romantic genre. I recommend Nachtstücke (strange stories) by him.
Thank you for your great videos!
