Effie had one of the best character transitions in the entire trilogy. In the first book/movie, she seems so bubbly and superficial, but during this scene she can barely stop herself from crying

"I volunteer."
"I can't let you do that!"
"Let go."
Kills me every time, the love these three have for each other.

I like how you can tell that unlike last time, Effie clearly didn’t want to do this. She finally began to see what the hunger games is about. Death.

Mad respect to haymitch for being ready and willing to sacrafice himself out of loyalty to katniss and to protect peeta. There’s no doubt in my mind that if peeta *had* been picked, he would’ve gone through with his promise.

You can actually see the pain in Effie's face! It's so heartbreaking

Love how Effie is portrayed in this. When first introduced, she appeared very flamboyant and more concerned with her job.
This time, her appearance is still a bit flashy, but more modest and the pain she feels when pulling their names out is evident. Love how much she has changed since the beginning

The look on Peeta's face when he tells Haymitch, *"let go"* is dead-serious; he's not joking around, he's not uncertain -- he's fully committed to his course of action, which is protecting, and if at all possible, saving Katniss.

Well done, Josh Hutcherson!

The significance of Mrs. Everdeen being the one to start the salute and not Prim is huge, Prim is immune, everyone loves Prim, but Mrs. Everdeen has and will always be an option to be targeted by the capitol and knowing that she's lost her husband and her best friend to the Games, and now she has to face the reality that her daughter will also be a tribute for the 2nd time in a row, risks it all to thank her for everything she's done for Prim while she was too depressed to do anything.

I know that Peeta obviously had to be the male tribute in Catching Fire for the story to progress, but it would've been SO interesting if we got to see Haymitch in the Hunger Games

This scene was sad though. When Effie said ladies first, all the way through while she was picking Katniss' name and everything, her face was sympathetic.

The fact that her mom was the first one to hold up her hand. After not being around emotionally in the last movie/book. It makes me tear up everytime.

I love how Peeta doesn’t hesitate AT ALL to volunteer and go with the girl he loves, even when he’s not sure if she loves him. As soon as Effie announced Haymitch’s name Peeta didn’t have to think twice about sacrificing his life for Katniss.

Am I the only one who absolutely LOVED Effie's monarch butterfly dress here? So creative!

Everyone: *three fingered symbol*
Katniss: We're screwed

1:34 Elizabeth's acting was so good, when she found out Haymitch was the tribute she literally started to hyperventilate

The mix of Katniss holding in tears, Petra clenching his fists and Effie trying her best not to cry with a shaky voice gets me everytime

I love how in this scene, when Effie and Katniss look at each other, you can see just how hard Effie is having to work to keep from weeping herself. The actress who plays Effie Trinket did an amazing job.

2:19 I love how Effie tries to stop the peacekeepers. At least give them one more chance to talk with their families.

The impact of the silent tear in her left eye is amazingly executed. Sends the perfect message to the viewer as to what is going through her head.

Also, notice how when Peeta is selected, her other eye cries a single tear as well, as though her counterpart has been killed already? Beautiful symbolism in this scene, truly.

The way in which Effie exhales while she says: "Haymitch Abernathy" always sounded to me like: "At least one of my children is safe."
Damn it hurts.

Edit: oh my god, I’ve never received so many likes on YouTube. Thank you very much guys!

Edit part 2: can’t believe this reached 10.000, you’re amazing guys!
