Looking back on this arc, this man Ichigo basically got a train ran on him by the espada. he fought Ulquiorra the first time, got incapacitated, Grimmjow healed him up so they can run their fade, Ichigo beat him just to turn around and fight Nnoitra. And then turned around and fought Ulquiorra again. Basically gets his back blown out and dies in that fight, gets revived on demon time and dominates Ulquiorra, then just to get humiliated by Azien so bad he had to go in the hyperbolic time chamber just to stand a chance...and would've lost that fight too had Urahara not shown up when he did.

I think what I love the most of this scene is how Grimmjow simplifies the reasons of this clash to the extreme.
Ichigo starts wondering why they are fighting, that he should protect Orihime and so on, and Grimmjow straight up tells him that it's bullshit.
They are fighting because it's their very own nature and this is how it has to be.

_"You're a Shinigami and I'm a Hollow! Whoever looses gets annihilated. That's how it's been for thousands of years. Do you need any other reason to fight? The one who remains standing returns alive. That's all it comes down to!"_

This fight is probably the most Ichigo's balanced fight
Usually Ichigo's battle will go like this: Ichigo initially takes advantage, villain doesn't hold back anymore, Ichigo is overwhelmed, uses strongest form to overwhelm opponent, villain unleashes strongest form, Ichigo is completely overwhelmed, no hope, has a new form, overwhelms the opponent
But this fight built different, that's why it's my favourite fight in Bleach

For some reason this fight always gets overlooked simply because of the non-stop action that follows, but the animation is absolutely ridiculous!! Bleach was always about style first and then everything else, all about Kubo and and the funky way his mind operated and the ideas that flowed. Probably why so many people get butthurt about bleach's popularity. It breaks their notions of how things should happen in a Shounen and power levels and all that nonsense.

he fails, others help him up again, help him become stronger, and then he tries again
