I dont think they are switching to ODM just because of global tensions, but also because the market is saturated. Look at how many different ODM laptops there is. They outsource production so they minimize the risk if that business side fails. That happens when there is not much innovation left. And for smartphones, there isnt much innovation left for the traditional smartphones. Foldable smartphones will unlock a new wave of innovation, but is still a few years from going mainstream

One of the most famous ODMs of all time...old school HTC. Under the Windows Mobile OS days (up to Windows mobile 5 or so), they were an ODM for carriers. It wasn't until they were big enough, they developed into HTC...the powerhouse during the latter Windows Mobile to mid Android days. It was ODM HTC models that helped to inspire the XDA developers web site.

5:41 IMO, US restrictions on China's chip sector are a serious geopolitical error. Yes, US wants to stem Chinese tech dominance. All this will do is force China to get serious about homegrown semiconductor capacity. The high-profile failures reported here will be temporary growing pains, as their GDP, and ability to set tech standards depends on global markets share of their state-owned enterprises. Once China fabs and device manufacturers vertically integrate, US ability to pressure that sector will evaporate.

US interests would be better served investing in preferred competitors, than burning the limited capacity of sanctions all at once.

MS Teams has also become the main video conference software for most of the schools for online teaching. Slack's IPO was also not very great.

With co-workers, we use MatterMost as a Slack alternative. It's quite user-friendly, open source, has the mobile app client, and can be self-hosted. I suggest it to enyone tired of making all your data leaked by big corps

Do you invest in the stock market, just wondering considering the amount of knowledge you have about companies.

That empty box comparable to Office is Quip. It's not quite as general purpose as Office. But it's definitely really powerful when working with other Salesforce solutions.
