We Supply - Stanley Clarke (1980) - bass - MM Sabre '79

I was never planning on any Stanley Clarke, it's not entirely my thing and mostly too brilliantly masterful.
But having just learned that it's Louis Johnson on bass and not S.Clarke, which had always been a bit of a mystery to me, because the sound is soooo clearly a Music Man Sabre with both pickups, and in no way to be mistaken for an Alembic... I decided to do a quick one of this tune.
3rd take, some 30 mins practicing beforehand, warming up my good old '79 Sabre that hasn't been played for a long time... but after more than 30 years on this bass, we became befriended again in no time :).
Recorded on MM Sabre '79 (people nowadays refer to this as a "pre-EB", but I would like to see that changed so much into 'post-LF'... but anyway; those in the know know...), both pickups on, onboard treble 9/10, bass 6/10.
Recorded on top of the original in Reaper, through an Audiobox audio interface, no further processing of the bass - so no effects, no compressor, nothing.
Tech. note: half of the notes in the fast lick in the intro were recorded on a separate track, which was a major hurdle by itself due to my permanently stiff RH middle fingertip after breaking it, but also for the timing, my eternal problem/weakness. We must remain humble, yes, we must. But it does not keep me from a good 5 minutes of thumpin', quite close to the original's feel. That again shows that I grew up with this music since a young age when it came out, have matured with this music and as a result of that it's lodged deep inside my ... soul... I guess. I'm so glad for that.
