No subject in bonsai causes as much controversy, disagreement and argument as bonsai soil. And no subject causes so much confusion and anxiety among people new to the hobby.

But bonsai soil does not have to be difficult if you understand some basic horticultural principles and what your bonsai tree needs.

Here is my take on bonsai soil, where I dispel myths and tell you everything you need to know to grow successful and healthy bonsai trees.

I love when I can be the first to post!! I have a couple of Candace's chinese elm trees she didn't have time to take care of. One of them was very waterlogged, yet no water coming thru the drainage holes. I hope I did right by the tree when I immediately got it out of the pot, and repotted it in the same pot, using akadama, pumice and lava. But now the leaves are falling off? From stress perhaps??
