Are you thinking about becoming a certified internal auditor? The CIA certification is the only globalized designation for internal auditors. Before taking on the program, you might want to check out the steps of becoming a CIA and whether you are comfortable spending the next few months to a year to achieve this goal.
There are 5 steps to become a CIA as shown in the presentation. The first time is really to make sure this certification is the best for your long term career. People have different reasons to go for a qualification, and based on my experience, sometimes they could be pretty short-term (e.g. picking one that has the least exam cost). Please don’t do that. The decision should be based on how it adds value to your personal development and your career
Then, the next step is to check your eligibility. We have extensive coverage on the rules in another presentation, but basically, you are fine if you have a bachelor degree, and have been working (or plan to work) for two years in internal auditor. For waivers and substitution of education and experience requirements, please refer to the video on this topic.
The third step is the registration. You will see the screen shots of the CCMS platform that you will use throughout your CIA journey. It is a centralized place for application, payment, listing of your profile and your progress.
The fourth step is to select a test center and schedule the exam. This is another straightforward step as there are more than 500 centers around the world. The scheduling can be done quickly online and the website is easy to navigate.
The fifth and last step is really to plan, study for and pass the exam. We have lots of information on CIA exam preparation tips, and review course comparison for you to fully prepared for this exam. With sufficient time and effort, passing this exam is not hard to achieve.
