The mechanism is actually a bit different from a real egg beater. They have the 2 whisks spinning in opposite directions so that they can mesh together while spinning. I had to look up how it works because it still just uses 3 gears, but the middle gear you spin is mounted vertically. It has teeth on both sides so to spin the 2 other gears in opposite directions.

This isn't a criticism, I just thought it was neat to figure it out.

I got a real one that’s an antique and the gearing definitely does not look like the build shown in the short. As for my restored antique, the beaters spin in opposite directions. The crank is attached to a large gear which drives the first beater in a 90 degree gear mesh, the second beater is driven off the first directly meshing with the gear of the first beater.
