I actually kinda like how the noise looks on the R7. I grew up in the 80s with those cheap flat rectangle shaped film cameras that produced nothing but noise. At 12, 800 the R7 looks crystal shyps clear to my eyes.

Another thing I gathered from this video is that it appears the R7 has enough detail, even at high ISOs, to be able to apply noise reduction and still have detail. I was worried that there'd be so much noise, it will kill detail. That doesn't seem to be the case.

Thanks again for making this video.

That Looks very nice to me for an APS-C Sensor compared to the R6! Thanks for sharing.

High ISO with light is not bad at all. Noise is more obvious when taking it in shade. I don’t expect miracle in the noise department for the R7.

Started with 7D.. and then 7D2.. now I'm on R6.. and yeah.. it really is about deciding if your OK with more noise on R7 but having extra reach and size of photo.. I might buy for outdoors/day time sports and my R6 for indoors/night time sports.

That was a great comparison video and illustrated 2 things. The importance of seeing 100% (where there was a significant difference in noise) compared to fit to screen, where there was much less difference. It also showed the R7 was not as bad as I thought it was. I think it's pretty well the same as the 90D/M6 Mk II in terms of noise. I was starting to think it was worse.

Thanks very much for making this video, it was very much appreciated.

R7 in high ISO looks like a bit noisy than Canon RP in photography too, but for video production and vlogs, still the best.

useful video..I liked 100% crop comparison..thats the real comparison..definetely R6 stands out..The IDX MK3 sensor is clear winner..

useful video, thanks. I'm interested to know how well the R7 high ISO noise can be cleaned up in programmes like Topaz or DxO. I know the performance of these programmes is dependent on the sensor and camera firmware.

For macro, which is one of my
main uses for my r7 (yet to arrive), I shoot at base ISO and use a flash, so I get super clean images. But for birds, I don’t do that. That’s when the ISO is an issue, but I only care about the finished image. Having used both the 7DM2 and the 90D, I think it really comes down to using the camera well. The r7 just won’t be good for high ISO if you must crop a lot. But I am ok with that as long as the light is good and there are plenty of bright days here. Just wish I could get my hands on it.

The noise is certainly more noticeable, but it’s not really that bad. When I had the M6 Mark II, I was very happy with its performance and I’m sure this will be no different with its extremely similar sensor. Honestly, with how good Topaz is, I basically don’t care about high ISO anymore…I’ve gotten some pretty shocking results that really do surprise me with that software.

Wow. The R6 obviously is a beast at high ISO, but judging by these samples, the R7 is not far behind. With a bit of software denoising, it will look just as good as the R6. Really impressed.

Not really a fair fight. The R6 pixels collect 2.5 times as much light as the R7. I ordered an R7 as a range extender for my RF glass. Great focusing system and the extended depth of field for macro was also an incentive for buying it. I can deal with a bit of noise.

6400 is the border (maybe 3200 iso) I think. Better thank a 7d mark ii where the border is between 800 and 1600
