Climate Change Adaptation to Protect Human Health in China

This video presents a best practice example of the development of a heatwave early warning system in China, implemented as part of the global GEF, UNDP, WHO project on “Climate Change Adaptation to Protect Human Health”. Key achievements of the project in China include:

- Set-up bases of intervention of heat waves and health adaptation at the community level
- Set-up a multi-sectoral cooperation mechanism in pilot sites
- Established an early warning system on heatwave and health risk and developed the application software
- Developed publicity materials for health education and health promotion training
- Reduced the health system vulnerability to climate change
- Improved the capacity of the health system and community residents to respond to heat waves
- Promoted integration of the early warning system into the public health emergency system.
