Former president Donald Trump this week downplayed the traumatic brain injuries suffered by American soldiers in an Iranian missile strike on an air base in Iraq in 2020, describing them as “a headache".

As a UK Command Surgeon who was deployed to the Middle East in 2022 with US forces I rewrote the policy to ensure all US Service persons who suffered mTBI from attacks on bases were recognised with Purple Hearts. As for Trump he is a disgrace and should be held accountable for all his crimes and statements. Thank you Michael for articulating what most of feel about this excuse for a human being.

I have a traumatic brain injury. Ironically, no headaches. I struggle with memory. Impulsivity and self control. Anger and irritability. Reading comprehension. Reading influencing. Thank goodness for assistive technology. Social skills ~ I don’t have a lot of friends. But no headaches….
