Well, if this isn't an invasion of privacy I don't know what is.

This is like a plot from that cool classic flick...Blue Thunder.

You seemed to contradict yourself a bit David.
If an officer using this type of device from outside the walls is seen as "searching" your premises, then an officer standing outside your open window looking in, would also be a form of "searching", even if it's a non-hightech method. Both are looking into what's going on within your premises and can be seen as an invasion of privacy.

I think any kind of remote sensing or surveillance into your home (from either outside or inside the premises) should require a warrant.

I think there's been a few cases though where people walking by a house (on the footpath) saw something going on inside (nudity i think) through an open window and got sued for invasion of privacy.

So if you're on the toilet or being intimate with your partner the police can see it. Your most private moments are private no more.

The only time when survelence isn't something that warrants a search warrant is if something falls into what is known as the Plain View rule. This is why many places have signs saying "Lock your car, take your keys, and hide your valuables.

This is good for hostage situations, but it can by misused like SWAT has recently.

Here I thought that 1984 was a fictional book... Not a guide book for the U.S. Government on how to control and monitor its people.

This device, and thermal imaging, are two very useful tools to help keep officers, and maybe even innocent civilians, safe. The problem is that it could easily be abused, and it certainly is an invasion of privacy. If cops have a warrant to specifically use said devices, then I'm not all that bothered by it. As long as it's something they don't carry around with them all the time.

Two ways to think about this
1 Thermal, sound is emanated from the occupant to nothing actually enters the house.
2 The radar sends a signal in and looks for the rebound
So 1 is not intrusive and 2 is
However What about radio waves are they intrusive? They enter your house all the time.
Personally looking at the device in the photo it has no picture display its just a number of such like. I have to say its not intrusion.

It is a direct violation of privacy, it matters not if radio waves are used to detect movement or passive IR imaging.  so next time i build a house it will have to be a Faraday cage with thermal lining with lead backing. why the lead you ask, so the buggers can't use X rays or Gama rays to perv on people.

Well now I need to line my house with lead now

Think of all the cops who've assaulted women and gotten away, now imagine them being able to see through your walls. #yourtitsarenotsafe

Time to invest in Faraday cage manufacturers.

If they have a warrant then I don't have a problem with this.  If they're just driving around using it at random then I have a problem with this.

If police have this, imagine what the intelligence services have.

Putting your ear to the door. What no polices shouldn't be able to do that either.

they should start using it on members of congress homes but there going to use these on impoverish neighborhoods, I smell a huge lawsuit once this device end up in the wrong hands.

Without a warrant, they're just peeping toms.
