“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall;
don’t be happy when they stumble.
For the Lord will be displeased with you
and will turn his anger away from them.
Don’t fret because of evildoers;
don’t envy the wicked.”

Proverbs 24: 16-19 NLT

Another good tip that I’ve actually learned from Thomas and Friends: try recording from a lower angle, pointing up at your engines. This way you can the engines look larger if you’re into that

Watching your DIY videos not only guided me as I got back into the hobby, but inspired me to start my own YouTube channel so I could share my layout with the model railroad community. I really enjoyed these tips on filming and look forward to trying them out!

A professional just means that you get paid, it does not actually mean you are good.
It is your work that makes you good at what you do. Another great video.

This is a great video covering a model railway topic no one else has ever done, thanks!

Talk about timing! I'm just starting my layout, and just today, I got in some new rolling stock. So, I started taking photos and a little video. The whole time, I was thinking to myself on how fun this hobby is, and all I have is track and foam down. I'm looking forward to sharing my progress now with these tips.

I wish you had made this video a year ago, it would have saved me a lot of trial and error videos 😊. One thing I also purchased was a Bluetooth remote to control the shutter on the phone. It made it a lot easier to control the train and start the video all at same time. Also it avoided the “bump “ at the start of the video.

I have a few tips for when you don't have a tripod. I try to brace my hands or elbows on a table or my body to help steady the shot. Then I use my wrist to pan the video. This works for shorter trains but if it's a 50 car train my arms get sore.

Great Video! It's nice to find another model railroader with a production background also. I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel. :-)

Another great and informative video, Jimmy! You have such skill at explaining how you do things and I look forward to your videos each week. Thank you for sharing these tips! Now where’s my tripod. 🤔I’m drinking a new decaf this afternoon called Immortal. 😁

It is so true, you don't need a lot to get started. I've been shooting my videos on a couple of iPhones (an SE and an 8) since I started a year ago. I bought lights similar to the ones you show and use some cheap tripods. I use a free video editing suite called DiVinci Resolve. I've got some experience with video production, but I am by no means a pro and I regularly get compliments on my video production quality.

Watched this because I know I need to step my game up lol…never even thought about using the iMovie app or uploading videos until I started my layout

OK great… Thanks a lot Jimmy… Now I have something else that I need to work on. I never thought much of filming my trains and showing them, but listening to you makes me want to become a YouTuber. You’re inspirational man!Well, maybe I won’t become a YouTuber but at least I’ll have better videos to show my friends

Thanks for this video. I am guilty of making hand held videos with just quick edits. The silly thing is I have a decent mirrorless camera and a tripod I could use and even a holder for my Android mobile. What you have put in this video makes sense so thanks again for this. Chris.

Jimmy,
I recently rigged up some lights using a few extra tripods that I've collected in a few years. Excellent Video!!
