MateBook X Pro PERMANENT Touchpad Fix

Q: Why the ID card?
A: It supports the touchpad from below, so the pressure from the hammer actually presses the tabs down against the touchpad. Or else you're just indirectly hammering the chassis.

Other people mentioned it below but you do NOT need to hammer it. Just apply force with another flat ended tool.

Also I did this by opening the laptop upside down, so the screen was at 90 degrees. Then I put 3 ID cards flat on my desk and put the touchpad directly against them. That way the ID cards receive the pressure of the force I was going to apply, rather than the keyboard/chassis. I also opened the laptop so in no way shape or form was there any chance of putting pressure on the screen.

It worked great though. Much appreciated.

You don't even need to go to the extreme of using a hammer. Since the tabs aren't that strong once you get the trackpad assembly held down, using a hex screw bit and applying some elbow grease will do the job. I did it on my Matebook and that did the trick. Also, great find by the way!

How about some epoxy or other adhesive on the tabs to keep them in place? I’d much rather put some chewing gum on the tabs or a sliver of duct tape under each one than break out the hammer to de-rattle my MBXP. Kudos for the continued exploration of this awesome laptop.

I've the same problem on Matebook D. How I can fix it? This solution isn't good for it.

Hi Brad! So this trackpad problem is a manufacturing defect and can it cause problems? Or is it completely normal and just annoying? Thank you very much!

Could you elaborate on what the ID card is used for? To you simply press it against the touchpad externally or just sit the laptop track pad on top of the ID while adjusting the tabs?

Would you recommend doing this to the trackpad before the rattle issue even occurs?

A less "traumatic" method I found includes folding a piece of scotch tape in half, then sliding the tape (sticky side facing up) under each "foot." Works perfectly and can easily be removed.

Thank you, this worked like a charm. Also nice to use a hammer to fix a laptop lol.

Brad is it possible to bend the metal tabs using a flat driver or similar? Or is more force required (i.e. hammer)?

Also why is the ID card required?

Hello there, Brad!
Thank you for your videos.
Did you encounter any other problems with the touchpad like it registers touch not being made or a bad sensitivity instead? Some ppl on reddit reported on that and sometimes I also can experience this problem. To my eye it does not look directly related to the problem described in your videos, but may be you know something.
Some ppl think it is related to the software working on palm rejection. Even though it is 2019 now, I have the latest drivers, but it is still there!

Do you get some hard drive noise on your mbxpro? I get some kind of noise when i do things. It's not a big deal, but it's noticeable, like when you read things on a regular hard drive.

How do you figure this stuff out? You're a genius!

Thanks, it worked flawlessly! Do you know of some drivers to improve touchpad behaviour? For instance, to make a right button click pressing the touchpad, you have to separate both two fingers from it, otherwise it doesn't work...
