The Best Fighter who was never a UFC champion.

Alistair Overeem is an absolute martial arts legend.

He was a veteran in Price FC where he submitted Vitor Belfort,

He’s a former Strikeforce heavyweight champion, dream heavyweight champion, and K-1 World Grand Prix Champion.

Then the demolition man would enter the UFC and beat a who’s who of former champions including Fabricio Werdum, Andrei Arlovski, JDS, Frank Mir, and Brock Lesnar.

However, Ubereem had an unfortunate history with title fights.

He was scheduled to fight JDS for the belt in 2012 but failed a drug test, so the fight was postponed.

The following year, he would pull out of his bout with JDS again due to injury.

So it wouldn’t be until 2016 and his 3rd scheduled title fight that he would finally fight for a championship opposite Stipe Miocic.

He would quickly have Stipe in some trouble after a left hand, but Stipe would return fire and finish Overeem in the first round.

In my opinion there was about a 4 year period where he was the best heavyweight in the world. Similar to the Michael Chandler situation--they entered the UFC past their prime. If you combined Reem's fight IQ at the end of his career with prime UberReem he would have been the GOAT. Legend.
