Green Day have emerged once more with a new song called The American Dream Is Killing Me. I haven't really listened to Green Day before, but I'm aware of their legacy. Is this song good enough for such titans of their genre? Tell me.

I think it's so cool that he can hear just a few seconds of the riff and then immediately play the riff. I know it's not really a big deal because musicians can just do that... but as a non-musician who can't do that, I just think it's so cool

I would just like to mention that Insomniac is a great record. Obviously everyone loves Dookie, and the Smooth records and Kerplunk hold a special place in the hearts of early fans, but Insomniac is sort of forgotten. It’s got incredible hits but it’s also got interesting sort of dark, avant garde moments.

"3 chords and the truth"... Absolutely perfect!! Yet another excellent analysis.

Not a bit shit at all! Just pure pop brilliance! Three chords, the truth, and melodic as hell. Well done, Green Day!

It’s a lead off single that sounds like Green Day, compared to some recent efforts by them, very excited for the album

As a GenX American, I feel this song is one reason we fell in love with this band. Glad to see them getting back to this.

Simple music like Greenday is a gateway to rock for a lot of people. I heard power chords and the sing along melodies when I was 13 or 14 and was hooked. I started playing guitar doing the same thing… and, while i may have developed a taste for more complex music, I still love a good pop punk song.

I love it. Classic Green Day doing what they do best.

This is a great song. It reminds me of the good old days of Green Day like “Longview”, “American Idiot” and “Holiday”. I really like “The American Dream is Killing Me” a lot. What’s hard to believe is that they’re in their early 50;s now.

I don’t care if it’s formulaic, I’ve been listening to Green Day since a kid and I still like their music. It’s a taste that you either like or you don’t like, I know what I’m listening to when i listen to Green Day and I usually like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's a fine tune. 20 years later they make American Idiot again and I'm all in.

Just for the guitar nerds, it's a Les Paul Studio in white I believe. Looks like a white custom but has regular Les Paul inlays, no binding and normal headstock.

Thank you JH for illustrating the difference in American and British music spheres/culture circles... if you were a teenager in the 90s, Green Day coudnl't NOT be on your radar... i resisted them, but they found their way into my earholes. been a casual fan since the mid 90s... it's the american punk version of AC/DC: you know what you're going to get. it's not a reinvented wheel. it's going to be good.

For me personally, the song sounds like a return to form for Green Day. I think the forthcoming single is even more so. I’m definitely biased but I’m all about it.

Return to form. Great stuff. Wish I could get tickets to gig. Saw them in 2010 and they were excellent live.

It's not their best, or worst song. At this point, I'm more interested in seeing them perform. They are by far one of the best live bands out there 🍻

It’s a catchy song and its much better than Father of All. They were going in an interesting direction on 21st Century Breakdown. Maybe it wasn’t as well received as American Idiot but it was still fantastic. I hope we get more experiments on this album.
