You can do this even with tnt. Place it like this (over some water, of course): redstone block. Gap. Wall. Gap. Redstone block. Then place tnt in the gaps so it activates instantly

You can also make the vertical slabs put putting a wall in the middle of 2 tnt, then light them both. Just make sure there’s water beneath so the tnt doesn’t explode the wall or “vertical slab”
