Fire Dancer Reacts: Fire Poi Spinning by G

One of my favorite fire dancing videos of all time! G's legendary performance at San Francisco decompression way back in 2009. So much of his poi dancing, poi tricks, and stage presence holds up to the present day. Then he did the same choreography a year later at Spin Festival and it's...kind of underwhelming. Why does the performance work with fire spinning but not with LED poi? I'll share my thoughts in this special reacts video!

Excellent video. One of my favourite routines too. I remember watching this for the 1st time and being like wow! G, mel, and Thomas were my main inspos way back in the day!

I agree, when I do LED shows, I emphasise to tech that I NEED some stage lighting. It bugs me so much when the ambient / stage lights get turned off. So dumb.

Crystal cases with double flow mass on long leashes are still to this my day are my favourite LED poi for feel and aesthetic. Just a shame they're not brighter.

I feel this performance with LED now would be a whole different dynamic due to the progressions of LED poi. A set of pod mods or VIsual poi would change this hugely

LEDs, of which I have 3 sets, only work well at dusk. Once it's dark, and you can only see a silhouette of a person or pure darkness and don't see them at all then it's pure crap to look at. Poi is only good if you can see the person's body and arms clearly. Only then can you appreciate the manipulation of the prop and the skill involved of the performer to not hit their body or tangle the poi. Unfortunately alot of performers who post online seem not to realise this and all one can see is 2 random lights moving around with no relationship with the spinner who seems invisible. Good memorable LED performances are never performed in near dark or dark.
