14:35 Cynicism and Confusion
16:40 Putin's Relationship with the Soviet Union

Videos I Mentioned:

This video is about how Ideology has changed in Post-Soviet Russia and the various tactics of social control that enable the Putin regime to rule. Some of these include culture war tactics that have now become quite prevalent in North America today. Many liberals have tried to pin down the actions of the Kremlin to a particular "ideology" of the Putin Regime. However, such approaches that overstate the role of ideology in driving Putin's actions miss the bigger picture: which is that the ideology of the Putin regime is actually quite vacuous and is merely a flexible rhetorical device for rationalizing the Kremlin's foreign policy and legitimizing The United Russia Party's rule. As we have seen since the first episode of this series Ideology of the Putin regime has changed greatly over time, from pro-western aspirations and an open commitment to Neoliberalism to a conservative collectivist shift that transpired in accordance with the souring of Russia-US Ties.

I've spent so much time explaining to those in the West that it is silly to ascribe to Putin a wish to restore the Soviet Union. You only need to read and listen to him a few times and it becomes clear that he's longing after the Tsarist Russia and its idea of a pan-Slavic, Orthodox regional empire, not the Soviet Union that came from a revolution which he hates, and ideas of class solidarity over national divisions that he despises. I appreciate you pointing this out here.

Great analysis. I've tried to explain that "Russian anti-imperialism" is fake a few times, but it's really exausting. Now I will just give my opponents a link to your video.

18:37 i had always wondering on why we always have monuments, museums or statues about victims of communism (socialism I mean but in pop culture it’s communism so you know) but we never build monuments, museums or statues for victims of capitalism, colonialism or imperialism

5:54 Russian society is different from Western society, they have a more collective living style than the West so it’s understandable.
Here in Vietnam having national and sovereign unity is pretty much considered as a must thing, not exactly bad I would say.

Amazing video, once again. It is very refreshing to see an analysis of my country of origin's modern history that aligns with my own lived experience and conclusions.
Plus, your pronunciation of Patriarch Kirill was on point 😊

Great video, 1dime! Really appreciate this criticism of Russia from a leftist perspective. Sadly many leftist on the internet refuse to see Russia for what it is: an authoritarian capitalist country that is firmly on its way to fascism, not some anti-imperialist force. Really hope it's going to change soon.

Ay yo, i don't know about you people, but for me i only could find the video after typing the whole title word for word (i screenshotted the video title from my suggestions earlier that day) and even then it wasn't even the first but the third video or so.
This is suspicious imo

hey 1dime, great video! just one note — ukraine has no 'the' before it. like other countries (just cuba, not 'the cuba), when people say 'the ukraine' it sounds very wrong to me as a ukrainian and may be an archaic grammatical structure that means that ukraine is a territory (like *the* sahara dessert) rather than it's own country

Great video! The only thing I'm a bit annoyed with is the idea that the 'culture war issues' are only a distraction. While you can see that this is the goal, the consequences of these culture wars can be dire for minority groups. For example, the anti-trans moral panic in the United States has caused more than 500 anti-trans bills in the US banning trans healthcare (for minors and in certain states adults), banning trans participation in sports (when in some entire states they could sometime only identify 4 trans folks in competitive sport, while in others there was... 0), banning trans folks for using the toilet that fits with their gender, etc. All of these are real and hard consequences of the culture wars... It destroys the livelihood of so many minority groups that never asked to be the focus of a moral panic.

Is the beginning of the video cut off? It starts by saying "The beginning of Russia's conservative turn was also"

As English is not my first language, it was a bit difficult to understand what were you saying sometimes, so it took me longer to finish the video. But thanks for the very useful information, that was exactly what I was looking for!
