Wheat sowing in Greece takes place from mid-October to mid-January and can be done as a wet or a dry farming cultivation.

To make a successful sowing, it has to be done early in areas with cold winters, in order for the plants to self-acclimatise to the harsh condition, and it is done late in areas with mild winters. Rainfall after sowing plays an important role, especially in early sowing, because if there is a prolonged drought period after it there might be problems in sprouting.

The seed quantity plays an important role in the yield, which lies between 180 and 230 kg/hectare. It is important to mention that sparse sowing promotes better tillering, which is more difficult in dense sowing.

Sowing takes place linearly and in most cases in depths no more than 5 cm, while in older times it was taking place superficially. In dry farming cultivation, right after sowing, the soil is pounded with special tools to promote humidity retention by the soil.

‼️In all of the above, the chosen cultivar plays an important role in managing the cultivation.
