I'm glad you didn't skip the crypt. Many do not know, so they skip it and I think it is worth visiting. Of course, the whole temple is beautiful, but I don't think it should be compared to the rest of the world. Each is beautiful in its own way.

Technically speaking the St. Sava church is small church next to the temple, and the crypt below could be considered as a separate church from the temple. It is a temple of Prince Lazar.

I remember a yugoslav computer magazine from 1989 had the story of how they planed out and calculated how to elevate the dome. It was 1989, communist time, where people were still oppressed for going to church - no wonder communists agreed to conserve their power through chaos as they're doing now. Few people know the marble on the outside was supposed to be much more beautiful, but those plans got sabotaged like so many other proSerb things in "Serbia" :)
