I just today finished Middlemarch and I absolutely loved it. Your review is fantastic. I loved how you distilled it down to four storylines and summarized it beautifully and succinctly. No way I could have done that. I think before reading it, Dorothea was the name I most associated with Middlemarch, and I did love her, but now I really think of it as an ensemble cast. I think Mary Garth might actually have been my favorite character. The Garths in general. But how intricately drawn each and every character was, every interaction, every emotion... Sigh, this book was just heavenly.

🤣"You know what people are like...🙄" Ay, Juan, me hiciste reír. That's exactly why I loved that book so much - it reminded me so much of the rural community in which I lived for more than 20 years. There's where I realized every person has a story. If only they had an author like Eliot to write it. Edit: One thing that thoroughly surprised and delighted me was the humor in the book. It kept me completely engaged.

Your analysis is fantastic. Eliot is a genius and you captured the themes and characterization with so much justice for her. I was nervous when your video went up but so happy you loved the book. Virginia Woolf’s quote is a classic. I have it in my Booktube about tab. 🥰🥰🥰

I am reading Middlemarch right now. I think all of George Eliot’s novels have those well rounded characters - I think the closest she got to a cartoonish villain is Dunstan Cass in Silas Marner.

Thank you Juan, for this interesting review and for sharing your insights. I still have to read Middlemarch, but hopefully will do so this year. My translated copy has more than 1100 pages.

Hi Juan, thanks for your review. I haven't watched all the video because I am reading it right now, but I agree what you have said so far. I think it is a complex novel as it has a lot of characters and topics, but it is not difficult to read. I also think that is the kind of novel that you need to read slowly, just a few chapters per day and alternative the reading with another book. Bye 😊

Still on my list to read. Like many other classics. Let's tackle War and Piece next. 😉
