It sure will. PCIE slots on your motherboards and on your graphics cards are forward and backward compatible.
PCIE cards: 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0 can be installed onto motherboards with all version of PCIE slots.
But keep in mind, the bus width which depends on PCIE version will run at lower version's speed. For example your card is PCIE 2.1, you installed it in motherboard with PCIE 1.1 slot, it will run at PCIE 1.1 speed

I"m considering either the HD 6770 or an nVidia 550, but not finding anyone who has done any real world bench marking head to head to compare the two to help me decide which to buy. Any recommendations? Thanks!

In the catalyst control center you will find the AMD Over Drive Menu, Its a tool to overclock your Gpu, But the best tweak tool out there is the Msi Afterburner it runs all Amd cards whatever the manifacture, Good Luck. BTW get the latest catalyst 12.6 driver for best performance.

Could you please tell me if this would run modern games in near-maximum graphics with a AMD FX-Series FX-4100 4× 3600 MHz Processor ?
Also what's the difference between a " XFX Radeon HD 6770 " and " Sapphire Radeon HD 6770 " or " AsusTek AMD HD 6770 " ?
I would really appreciate a helpful answer :)

They require a PCI-E slot, not normal PCI. I am not sure as for the general size (I just bought mine myself and it hasn't arrived yet ;) ) but it seems pretty small. It is probably going to take up another PCI-e slot if you have one.

Those two cpus with a couple of 6770 crossfireX will devour any game these days alive.
HD 6770 from different brands aren't different at all. Still the same GPU. What different is: gpu cooler, and sometimes mem clock and gpu clock (just a little, which are not much affected to the card)

You will not be able to run ultra without noticeable stuttering. Now throwing another idea your way, Im assuming this rig cost about 750-900 dollars? In which case you could build your own and get a 40% performance boost with the right combination with forward compatibility to boot. Just an idea and to let you know it is very rewarding to put it all together, but you do need someone with experience to help/ not a no it all friend either

XFX cards have standard warranty and I have never had to call in for anything. so I can't tell you how their customer service is.. But so far I like your specs. if you are going all the way get and i7

Its an entry level gaming card, and its worth it. yougot to need an Intel i3 Dual core, Or a Phenom X4(better for amd cards) and about 6Gb DDR3 Ram.

Yes but your main bottle neck is the celeron processor. I suggest an i5 at least
