Graphic Card Step By Step Fault Finding Guide. How to Diagnose a Faulty GPU Using Basic Equipment

preview_player
Показать описание
This short video series will help you diagnose just about any fault on a graphics card. This is not exactly a repair guide, it is a methodical sequence of tests that, if you follow them, will show you what part of the circuit is faulty. You can make almost all of these tests using just a multimeter. You can then decide if the fault is something you can repair yourself, but you will know what is wrong with the graphics card. I've split this video up into several parts. In this part we learn what to look for while making visual checks, and then take some resistance readings which will quickly tell us if the graphics card has a very common fault.

I have not fully watched all of them, but made it so far to number 4. I would like to thank you for these. Though I had already found the fault in the gpu I was repairing, it helped me rule out any other issues on the gpu. Saved one from the landfill. This guy is awesome.

*Parts 2 & 3 are already recorded. Publishing Part 2 : 21st October and Part 3 : 23rd October. Each are 30 mins, give or take and follow the same step by step approach*
*Here is the long video I made on graphics card repair, actually a couple of years ago. The GPU Repair Guide*
This series will add more fault finding techniques

Just a word of gratitude for teaching me a few basic steps on how to repair a graphics card. So thank you. I've wanted to learn how to repair electronics, but it's been difficult here in the US to find someone willing to instruct me. Out here, noone is willing to share that information. They're really stingy and self centered and it makes me a bit sad. So it's a breath of fresh air to have someone willing to share their knowledge. Anyway, Id love it if you could give me a list of everything that I need to buy in order to repair graphics cards. Everything from test leads, scope, solder, cleaners, software for diagnostics etc... I really would like to purchase an identical video scope like the one that's behind you in the video on the left side. Do you have or can you design one for purchasing? Also, thank you for taking time and teaching me from your video. I am eternally grateful.

An excellent introduction to graphics cards, even though I doubt I will ever try and repair one I have always wondered about their layout. Your practical step through is most absorbing. I look forward to the subsequent videos.😊

Please be sure to tell us if you are using diode or ohms mode each time you change a check or operation. "Again we are still in diode mode with black on the ground" or " We are still in diode mode or Change to ohms mode and we will check". This is only as I was not sure if you were still in diode mode when you turned the board over. Just trying to learn! Thanks for the video.

Commenting for the algo. I'm sure this info is gonna help me a ton trying to figure out why my repair didn't fix. 😆 Just hope I don't need any extra fancy tools

Great video as always Richard, thanks for creating a comprehensive guide for GPU repair.
I was watching your videos for some time now, you inspired me to try some repair myself.
Just now I was checking not working GPU (GTX 980 TI) I bought on eBay, it has some blown fuses on 3.3V and 12V.
While checking data lanes, 9-th lane from both side reads a bit different, front ones reads about 0.77 but one side of the 9-th - only 0.64, from the back all reads about 0.64 but also one side of the 9-th - only 0.59. Is this enough indication of shorted core?
I'm not finding shorts on any coil.

You are excellent teacher of electronics.
Please do more video about graphics card.
Do you have any telegram channel or WhatsApp?

Hello and thank you for your informative videos.
I have a :INNO3D Geforce RTX 2060
2060182-6G
PG161
63-1ADT06H1
K A9 45 A3

the 12v is shorted to ground and there is only one 12v supply connector on the board.
Im looking for mosfet replacements but cant seem to find any.
Where do you get yours?
the mosfets markings are: AL00 9Y 1F
Some other mosfets are on the board but i think the AL00 's are the VRM circuit.
Other mosfets on the board: QA311 926 09R
GS9219 0NVM

I'm not really that familiar with graphics cards - can you please explain what a mining adapter is all about?

4:33, That top-right mounting screw looks quite crusty, especially at the top right next to the diagonally to top-right pads for the unpopulated capacitor C2761. At 23:23, I might have misheard you but while measuring the voltage you say Watt instead instead of Volt, twice.
