Abstract: The theory of algebraic curves is one of the oldest subject in mathematics. The modern study of it is an interplay of algebra, geometry, and topology involving fields like algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, and complex analysis. In this talk I’ll present several elementary properties of algebraic curves, including their singularities, topology, and intersection properties. In doing so I wish to introduce you the fascinating world of algebraic geometry and motivate further studies in the area.
