PLEASE provide captioning so that this video is ADA compliant and can be used for educational purposes! I teach pre-credential teacher candidates and this would be an incredible resource for them!

Chris Emdin came into my science class. My amazing partner teacher and I were observing and giving feedback to team poster presentations in a merry-go-round style, we were both a bit sick. 6 teams we presenting at a time. We have a huge class, 52 kids, 12 groups! As the kids were presenting I noticed all the student presenters perk up and turn on their BEST. I turned around to see what was going on and there was Dr. Emdin smiling and super ENTHUSIASTIC with his nonverbals about what he was seeing. His positive attitude for student achievement shines so bright! I appreciate all that he offers education.

The take home lesson for me is that first 4C's are all about fostering engagement and empowering students from divergent backgrounds as a part of the learning process. If you can show them that school is an extension of themselves and their communities then content is bound to follow. Hard to argue with that! Good talk :-)

I'm studying this as a PhD student in Social Work...Paulo Freire and Pedagogy of the Oppressed. This is obviously build upon his ideology as all modern critical pedagogy is. However, I really like the way this has been brought to the present and seems much less disconnected than Freire's writings from the 60-80's

There are many ideas that sound appealing, but what is needed is to scientific research to determine if these approaches are effective. Much of what was mentioned could lead to a teacher projecting their views on what should be done. Feedback from students and parents is important.

"Context means not seeing the academic space is not a sanitized space" This was such a great watch. I've been digging into everything I can get on culturally responsive and equitable classrooms. This has been extremely helpful! #equity

I think this is good but how do you do this in the real world when everything is standard base. You have to teach the standards so they can pass the state exams. How can you do this w/o the academic rigor required in classrooms, especially, if you have very little time to teach the standards?
