The Gap Between Neuroscience and Education: Is it a Bridge too Far?
Показать описание
Speaker: Dr. Jason Lodge (Associate Professor of Educational Psychology, School of Education & Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation, The University of Queensland)
Date: 4 May 2019 (Saturday)
Time: 9:30am - 10:30am
Venue: RLG208, Forum Theatre, Research Complex, HKSYU
Language: English
Summary:
The use of evidence in education has a long and divisive history. For over 100 years there has been international debate about the best forms of research for improving student learning in classrooms. Two recent trends have reignited discussions about evidence-based education; the rise of cognitive neuroscience and the constant evolution of educational technologies. In this presentation, Dr. Lodge will discuss the research methods used in the learning sciences (including neuroscience) and how research from the laboratory can inform the improvement of education as technology increasingly impacts on the classroom. In this discussion, the limitations of evidence-based policy and practice in education will be pointed out. Teachers and design-based approaches are critical to effective evidence-informed practice. Translational methods of research and implementation science are important foundations for effectively taking the findings from the laboratory and applying them to the classroom.
