We took the boat ride from Luzern to Alpnachstad and I have never seen so much beauty in my life. I felt like I was in heaven. Highly recommend!
We also stayed in a traditional Alpine chalet hotel a few minutes outside Luzern. We had a rental car. Would definitely recommend it too.. we loved it.

A fun factoid: a certain German poet by the name of Ludwig Rellstab wrote in 1832 that the moonlight shining over Lake Lucerne reminded him of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in c# minor. Within 10 years (give or take) the name "Moonlight Sonata" has firmly stuck. (Beethoven died in 1827.)
