Zebra Sharks - Amazing Life of Mini Documentary

Показать описание
These incredible endangered Sharks flock to Julian Rocks at Byron Bay every single year in enormous schools. Their 'lack of teeth' means that diving with these sharks is incredibly safe. They feed on small shrimp and invertebrate, and are incredibly curious and relaxed towards humans.
Oddly enough this shark species is also migratory (in some regions) and is known to follow warm water currents. Interestingly, this species of shark also does not have to swim to breathe! They have an unusual ability to funnel water over their gills through their mouth, meaning they can breathe while stationary or on the sea floor.
To answer the never ending name question, you American scuba divers or snorkelers will know these sharks as Zebra Sharks, whereas Australian, South East Asian and New Zealand divers know them as Leopard Sharks. Americans have another species of shark (that Australian and the Indo-Pacific region do not have in our waters) which they refer to as Leopard Sharks hence the naming confusion! But here you have it. When in doubt, scientific names exist to solve all these issues! Scientifically these sharks are: Stegostoma fasciatum.
This film was shot in summer in Byron Bay, NSW, Australia.
