How to Get a High GPA and BEAT the System!

Today I go in depth on the tactics that I used to boost my GPA in one semester. If you are willing to work hard and smart you can do it too! Don't forget to subscribe, like and comment with your thoughts! Thanks!

1. Have a Positive Attitude
I cannot stress this enough. If you go into a semester completely dreading it, telling yourself how hard it will be and how bad its going to be. Well, you're already halfway to failure. You have to go into the semester seeing it as another opportunity to succeed. You must be ready to put in the hard work that it takes and hype yourself up for a good term.

2. Get Organized
This one is equally important. You can't succeed if you have no idea what it is you need to do to succeed. Organizing yourself allows you to offload unimportant tasks to a later time when they are more pressing, and allows you to focus on what you need to do immediately. I like to use a big calendar for big events and due dates, I like to use my phone calendar for smaller repeating weekly tasks like classes and scheduling study time. I also use Microsoft To Do to keep myself organized.

3. Study in 30 Minute Blocks
I saw a great video on this once, this is the most that an average person can focus on a tough subject for, before losing focus. Study for 30 mins on and 5 mins off. This allows the information to sink in and keeps you from getting to fatigued or frustrated because your brain can no longer focus.

4. Proper Textbook Reading
Start at the very end of the chapter. Read the summary, read the problems so you get an idea of what you should be looking for.
Then go back to the beginning of the chapter and read only the headings.
Then go back again and read the first and last sentence of each paragraph, a lot of times the information that is inside is summarized in those two sentences. You will find that doing this will make you understand better and make your life a lot easier.

5. Read Before Going To Class
This is much easier said than done. But using the tip above, you should now be able to skim through a chapter and retain most of the information which will better prepare you for that topic in your next class.
If you get lecture slides before a class, give yourself 10 minutes to skim through them so that you can follow along with the professor.

6. Summarize Lectures and Ask Questions
After each lecture write down a quick 3 sentence on what it was about so you can refer back to it later. Also write down the parts that you didn't understand so you can go and ask the professor after class or at their office hours.

7. Use Your Professors and Your TA's
Don't waste your time on a problem that you just can't figure out. Ask your TA's for guidance and they will be more than happy to give it to you. Annoy them with questions even. That is what they are there for.

8. Practice Practice Practice
If you are in any type of class where you have to solve problems, PRACTICE. Sitting in the class and copying down the professors answer to a problem is not going to help YOU solve that problem on a midterm. Make sure that you have at least 3 hours per class per week of good 30 minute blocks, and you are doing lots of practice problems to understand what the course is about.

9. Get Rid of Distractions
Simple as putting your phone on silent and facedown to the table next to you and not touching it until you are on a break. If you are super extra you can delete your social media apps during the school year to help you study better.

10. Exercise!
This has been proven to increase your mood and your concentration. Do something more than daily walks, you want to get your heart rate up and sweat and you will really notice a difference.

Is studying in 30 minute blocks short if you are researching or doing work?

These were some great tips! I am currently researching a lot of universities for Online Masters Degrees and these will be helpful once I start learning again. Also, do you know of any good mechatronics programs that are online? Great vid! 👍
