Dear Sir Nick. Where i can get data for Internal solitary waves. And which software is best for waves modelling ?

Is there any intuitive way to understand why the energy (group velocity) of an internal wave would propagate at right angles to the phase propagation? I've seen visualizations of these propagations, but I still can't intuitively picture the physical process that causes energy propagation. The parcels of air are also oscillating at right angles to phase but I just can't visualize how this would propagate energy.
