Wood-burning locomotives were preeminent in the US at one time, but the development of such locomotives basically ended in the late 19th century. It's interesting to see how the design of mainline wood-burning locomotives continued to develop and modernize in Finland. You'd never see a wood burner running at modern track speeds anywhere else in the world. What a gorgeous locomotive, too!
