Glögg - a mulled wine recipe

In today's video, we're making glögg! This is a Scandinavian mulled wine recipe that is typically made for large holiday parties. This year I'm not attending any large parties, so I've put together my own recipe that will serve 2-4 people. If you're keeping it low-key this holiday season, give this one a try. Then next year you can easily scale up all the ingredients to serve the masses! For this recipe I'm using cognac, which is common in other mulled wines. However, if you wanted to change it up, feel free to use whiskey, rum, or even aquavit (if you wanted to be traditional to Scandinavia). This drink is best enjoyed on a cold evening with ginger snap cookies. Cheers!

If you want an even stronger glögg, add an extra shot of cognac in the glass before serving 😉
Cheers! 🍷

Funny, as a Swede I always assumed you were too. Up until now I thought I heard a Swedish accent in your vids. Great video! The pronunciation is ehhh close enough, A for effort! Thanks for honouring our tradition. Me and my gf are having glögg and pepparkakor every night. I’m so glad you discovered that you can dip the kakor into the glögg, like a true Scandi.

My uncle told me that he made a large portion of gløgg some years ago for a christmas lunch gathering, where he also had soaked 2 whole bags of jumbo raisins in rum instead of just putting normal raisins into the gløgg. And he informed me that people at the gathering became funny really quick x)

My sister moved to Denmark two years ago and we had Glögg when we visited. It's amazing, so much better than standard UK mulled wine. We got the recipe off the bar tender and they soak the raisins and almonds in rum for 3 months prior to serving, it's next level.

Love me some mulled wine. It's Gluhwein in Germany. My family has never bothered with a recipe lol. At different times it will get dried Cherries, Blackberries, or Currants in addition to the spices and orange. Usually not Port though. You can't beat a glass of Gluhwein and a pocket full of Chestnuts to keep you warm at a snowy Weihnachtsmarkt.

Hi Anders! I just wanted to say thank you for this recipe! I tried it when the video came out, and has been coming back every christmas since. It is by far the best Glögg I have ever tasted.
Cheers from Denmark :)

Late to the party but there is a special tradition when eating Pepparkakor (the Swedish cookies): you place the cookie in your palm and then make a wish, with your other hand you tap the cookie. If it breaks in 3 then your wish will come true. Loving this and all your videos!

Well I’m Swedish, and I’ve been drinking this stuff since I was 5. Always from a store, now I’ll try my own. Thank you so much 👍

Absolutely fantastic recepie. I did not find any cardamom pods, but concentrate drops. I used just a few drops (first I tried them alone to test how strong was it).

It worked out pretty well and tasted exactly as the already made Gløgg that I would find in the alcohol store!

Just tried this recipe with my family yesterday for Christmas Eve and it was absolutely delicious! We used a Korbel brandy that we had instead of the Cognac as well as turbinado sugar instead of demurara, but it still turned out great

Great recipe! I did a Gluhwein (German Mulled wine) last year. This stuff is a staple in Europe during this time of year

I've been making my great grandfather's glögg for years and, like you said, its a bit different from family to family. All my friends get excited when the first snow falls because that means its time for the first batch! I make it in large batches: warm spices (whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, whole cardamom ), when aromatic, put them in cheese cloth with raisins; in a big pot, warm 3.5 L Port wine and 500 mL Rye and let that steep with the spices as long as you want. You'll be surprised how little is left over with four friends staying warm during the winter.

We usually make our glögg with vodka, but after seeing this video we tried Anders' version.
We used brandy though as we had a bottle with exactly 180mL in it.
Usually we soak the spices (more of them) in the vodka, but used the brandy for this instead.
Turned out delicious and very smooth, warming but not the smack in the face of the vodka.
I think I've found a new favourite.

My family makes glögg with Norwegian aquavit instead of cognac, though it’s mostly the same otherwise. The caraway in the aquavit adds a nice depth with the other spices.

I made this tonight. I couldn’t believe how well it came out despite using good ol’ E&J, cheap(er) port, and Mencia wine from Spain. I loved it. I did add almonds and it gave it an extra nutty flavor which went well with the spices I thought. I love this channel.

I love this! I am from Swedish/danish background, and I have always wanted to try glögg, I’m so glad I found your recipe today! I made it, and I made ginger cookies while I waited and enjoyed it by the fire with family in the living room, with a blizzard blowing outside. Perfection! Thanks!

In my family recipe I usually I skip the cognaq but let the spices soak in vodka for 3 days. Gives it a fuller taste, but it will give it an extra kick. :) Adding some dried apples and Calvados also works really well. Thanks for great content!
