For those who don't know, he actually LIKES her! He's just really kind and polite to others. He then realized that being kind to everyone is not being kind to the people that are important to him. This is a really nice japanese drama and I really loved how the guy expressed his love for the girl by waiting for her, despite knowing that she might not show up.
