Question Period: China arrests Canadians, climate emergency motion — May 16, 2019

Today during Question Period the conservatives questioned the government’s handling of the case of two Canadians arrested in China after the pair was formally arrested today after months of detention. The conservatives also continued to push the government to formally apologize to Vice-Admiral Mark Norman, while the NDP questioned the Liberal government’s commitment to fighting climate change.

Climate emergency? Where? It's the May long weekend here in Edmonton, Alberta and my condo building still has the heat turned on. The forecast for Edmonton is for a low of 4 degrees on Victoria Day, but it feels even lower with the windchill.

If China is indeed saying behind closed doors that the Canadian there were arrested were for political reason then at this point there position is the same as being in the hands of terrorists, and there should be no negotiations. If we allow China to use citizens as bargaining chips then there is not saying they will not do so again.
