As a UCSD graduate, both of these kids are totally right. Calling the cops for help shouldn't get you in trouble, this is the same reason why people don't like to use their insurance, because you often get punished for using it. In addition, UCSD is merely a research facility masquerading as an educational institution, the undergrad experience was pretty poor, especially considering how much it cost.

Kids these days are struggling to find purpose, so they turn to substances to numb the pain, because they realize there's nothing they can do to fix anything. Taking that away is just going to make the problem worse, it's almost like they're trying to make them unhappy so their spirits will be too crushed to fight back once they enter the workforce.

One might argue that the kids are taking up too many police resources, but rather than ask why this problem has gotten worse, we just slap a band-aid "don't do that" onto the problem. This approach to problem "solving" has gotten our society into the mess it's in today. I fear for our future.

the hazing rituals are disturbing, wildly immature, oppressive and life threatening. I agree that they need to get rid of them or fix the culture. It’s disturbing and I wouldn’t want my kid, if I had any to go there . The other uni’s aren’t even as bad as this one. Some of the things I read and saw recently are not for the faint of heart.
