Great information! My betta passed away from dropsy this morning and my question is, how do I clean the tank? It was a split tank that housed another betta, 3 snails, and some live plants. What are the next steps to take after this happens?

Hello, I have a 36 gallon tank with a mix of fish. Cherry barbs, angle fish, glo tetras, snails etc. I have three fish that have bloat/dropsy. The gourami currently is the worst case. It has gradually gotten larger to now where the scales are popped out. One cherry barb is starting to swim nose down and one glo tetra is very skinny with a curved back. That one is having a hard time staying upright. I have lost a few others to this where I would just find them very bloated deceased. Before this started, I have another tank with a breeding pair of angels. I kept two of the babies and put them in this tank that now has the issue. (I really don't want this to attack them). I really need to find a treatment for this before I lose all of the fish. Any ideas would be great. I do not have an extra tank as a quarantine tank. But since this seems to be a reoccurring issue in this tank, I feel treating the entire tank would be better. I really appreciate any guidance you can provide!! Lisa

Maybe tough to diagnose. I have a 5yr old male betta, he sinks to the bottom and lays on his side. Still eats, and will make it up for air, but sinks like an anchor. Tried the no food/then boiled pea, gave him a salt dip, added aquarium salt, used a general cure med. Did all these over the course of a month or more, being sure to not over due it with treatments. He currently has had nothing done to him for maybe 3 weeks.... Just bought methylblu... Can you provide any insight? Thanks

I read the article you suggested and unfortunately it was way over my head. I have a 6 year old 46 gallon tank. I use our well water for partial water changes and top offs, which is hard and fairly high in PH. Lately I have unfortunately lost 3 Odessa barbs due to dropsy. Is there a product I could add that contains the minerals mentioned in the article, (calcium, magnesium, sodium) that would be plant and snail safe and is there a way to test the water to find out if a lack of these minerals may be the problem with my tank. I do use Salty Shrimp with distilled in a designated shrimp tank which seems to be doing well, but wasn't sure if something like that would be an option with well water. Thanks

I've had an very fertile angelfish for maybe 3+ years and I can't remember when was the last time she was not bloated. 65g tall community tank, the most ive done, is an epsom salt bath for her, but I also used pimafix & melafix on the tank. I wish I can cure her, she so active but goes under her little rock and gets in such a weird way almost like letting the rock hold her from floating up. I figured, if it's terminal, then the least I can do is cautiously try to alleviate her with other things. I'll start from least severe to most. How long should one wait before going from medication to medication on a fish?? Thank you so much for taking your time to read. 🙏🙏

I treated my male betta fish with Maracyn Two for fin rot and I am convinced it gave him dropsy. I’m assuming he was one of those unlucky fish whose liver got hit by the medication.
