Factoring by Grouping

In 40 minutes i learned all about factoring from you. i learned GCF, DOTS, Trinomial, AC method and Grouping in 40 min. I have 40 min classes everyday and my teacher can only teach us 1 lesson in 40 min. You taught me 5 in that same time. Keep up the good work.

@lorikano you can use the quadratic formula to find the factors

yes, typically you write everything in descending order and then factor - at least most problems are set up to work out that way it seems

yes, if you factor a number out, all of the coefficients on those terms get divided

@babylamb21 if you use the discriminant ( b^2 - 4ac ) you will see that it does not factor.

yes, that is the hard thing about a test: often times, you have to know it, and know it quickly. u can always talk to ur teacher and see if you can get a few extra minutes. if not, just practice til your hand is sore so that you get faster! (or do both)

not all the terms have (a-b) as factors ; the second has (b-a) so you have to factor a negative out.

@omshark900 well, the last two terms of that just cancel out... leaving x^2 - 4x when u just factor out the 'x'
