Hello Dancers & Friends!

It’s been awhile! I’ve been away from YouTube, but now I’m so glad to be back!

In this video I show you how to sew & tie (demi-)pointe shoes. I’ve been teaching Pointe Preparation in my NYC studio and online program, and it has been sooooo much fun! I hope you'll join us as we take this marvelous journey! All the lessons are available through Everyday Ballet Online CLASSIC membership. And there's a 7-day Free Trial if you want to check it out! (Link below)

Pointe Preparation begins with dedicated foot conditioning and special classes designed to strengthen the feet, ankles, and placement. We also train in Bloch "Tensus" demi-pointe shoes.

Although they look like full-strength pointe shoes, the Tensus demi-pointes are MUCH lighter and more flexible. They are NOT intended for rising all the way up to pointe! Rather, they are designed to help the aspiring dancer work the feet more intensively as they acclimate to the structure of a pointe shoe.

The sewing is the same for demi-pointe shoes as for any regular pointe shoe. This video outlines my sewing method, but there are certainly others. With experience, each dancer finds what works for their unique feet. 🩰

I hope you enjoy the video!

Happy Dancing!

Thank you Tiekka, so lovely to see you posting again . We have missed you. I used to have to sew the elastics on my daughters flat shoes and then later the ribbons etc on the pointe shoes. It was so frustrating and many hours were wasted unpicking the stitches when the placing was wrong. We were just expected to know how to do it and no-one showed us how! The first pair of pointe shoes I attempted resulted in blood, sweat and tears quite literally as I pricked my finger several times. We also had to darn the flat base of the point with a sort of chain stitch which went round in a sort of spiral of circles in order to give the point some grip and make the shoes last longer. We had to do this with a curved flat sided needle. I can share one tip though, if any of the students don’t fancy playing with fire, the ends of the ribbon can be sealed with a coat of clear nail varnish. Just don’t use the flame and the nail polish together! Otherwise you might need the fire departments intervention. Thank you again Tiekka

I am trying to wait patiently until I am able to upgrade my membership so that I can begin the pointe preparation! I already have the demi-pointe shoes to help strengthen my feet faster.

How do you know when you are ready to advance in technique (i.e. Ballet Body 2)? I am in my seventh month of taking your classes! I am doing my best to take my ballet practice slowly and also focusing on cross-training, so that I do not injure myself.

Hello, tiekka mam 🙂 I love your teaching method, you are so inspiring for the adult ballerinas 🥺❤️ well, I need a little bit of help from you, please can you help me if possible 🥺 I am not a ballerina, I am 17 years old but I heartly want to learn ballet 🥺 but there are no ballet classes available in our city, so I stretch regularly but before a few weeks ago I got a doubt that I have twisted splits, means my hips are not staying squared in the splits, so I googled the solution of that problem and it said, to check if your hips are twisted in the splits do the splits by bending the back leg and putting it on the wall and front leg on the floor, but it said that you have to put your bend leg straight and not diagnal, I tried to straight the back leg, because of that my hip of the left leg got injured, however I still have strong hamstring flexibility than others but my left hip hurts so much while doing stretching😭left leg was my good leg and front leg of the splits, I got my splits two years ago and middle splits on this year and now I can't do them again 😢 but I don't want to give up 😢 please tell me how to get recover from that if possible 😢😢
