I love the cute little story about your Dad making sure you got the piece with the coin in it ❤️❤️

Thanks for presenting Bulgaria and the tradition around Banitsa . Side note, small procent of us eat it with honey on top.❤

This looked so darn good! Love the addition of the honey for a touch of sweetness. I’ve enjoyed something similar in the Serbian cheese pie, Gibanica, which I imagine is a little easier to make since you just dip phyllo in the cheese mixture & cram it into a dish. Lol Definitely adding honey the next time I make it!

I have a dish I've made for the last like eight years for new years, as an appetiser, its puff pastry with a filling of a strong blue cheese like stilton that's been mixed with philadelphia cheese, then another layer of puff pastry on top, fork it down on the edges and brush egg wash on top.
Then into a preheated oven for the recommended amount of time or until golden.

I really liked that you included a Bulgarian dish. Maybe you can try making lyutenitsa/лютеница next time. :)

This reminds me of a tyropita. In parts of northern Greece they also have tyropita for new year's eve but they don't roll it.

I made this on a whim bc I was bored and it was THE BEST. It was sweet, salty and tangy at the same time.

I doubt that this is traditional as people from the past did not cook much with dairy
