How Did Governments Put a Stop to the Pirate Menace?
Показать описание
As much as the golden age of piracy is romanticised and immortalised in literature and media, the specific time period did not last long. The golden age lasted roughly from 1650 to 1730 - a mere eighty years; a drop in the ocean in historical terms. Pirates, over the course of their short tenure, caused huge problems for nations and governments operating and trading throughout the Caribbean, and, as such, said governments were keen to put a stop to them as soon as they could. This was no mean feat - many pirate crews were operating across the Caribbean throughout the golden age, and, even though the age eventually ended, pirates still persisted - and do persist today. When you have many skilled teams of marauders sailing through your waters, you're inevitably going to be faced with numerous challenges - challenges that need to be dealt with crafty schemes and tactics.
In today's video, we will be exploring the eventual downfall of the pirate menace across the high seas of the Caribbean, towards the end of the golden age. What kinds of methods did local governments employ to ensure that people were put off the idea of becoming pirates? What kinds of punishments were in store for pirates who were caught? And how did piracy, as we have commonly come to know it, meet its end? Sit back and relax as we take you on a tour through time to explore the end of piracy.
