They should train with their arms tied behind their backs, that way they can get a performance boost when they untie their arms

Next level is a full blindfold and they have to anticipate where the ball will be using the force

I remember these first being used in ice hockey goaltender training around 5 years ago. For me they drastically improved my reaction time and puck tracking as well as hand eye coordination in general. Lots of hockey goalie training techniques like mesh screens would be super useful for football goaltenders too

i wore similar goggles in practice when i played hockey. it was when i moved up to contact leagues, our coach said he was prioritizing our health and had us run drills with the goggles to identify a defender coming to check us, then react and make a decision quickly enough to refocus on the defender and prepare for the hit. when we went into games and other teams were aggressive with their contact we usually fared very well, we were always ready for hits and were able to easier find our open teammates.

i've also seen many stories of motorsport drivers using those goggles on hot laps to help focus on their racing line better. it's really interesting hearing and learning about the various ways a single piece of sports training tech is used across different sports

Its part of whats known as the constraints lead approach… theres a book called how we learn to move. It also explains how Brazilians are so skillful from having constraints in their play area and increased variability… diff balls diff surfaces etc.

We used to use these mesh bags as in hockey as a goalie, they were black and white and messed with your vision and forced you to activity track the puck

Cool. I like it. Use whatever tool you can procure to train. Very interesting.
