I think that this railway line in Shanghai is more an S-Bahn type service (commuter railway) than a subway service (which is called U-Bahn), after German standards. Mostly this is because of the station density, which is pretty low for a subway, but pretty ideal for a commuter rail service! There are commuter train services in Germany (especially in Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart) which has the same type of station density and character as this "metro" line in Shanghai!

Um, technically BART's Yellow Line is over 60 miles (100 kilometres) long.
