Elden Ring Cut Content - Dream Collecting and Sleep Mist - Unseen NPC and Conversations

So it's kind of amazing to me that such an in-depth mechanic was cut from Elden Ring, being able to collect dreams from sleeping creatures, visit an entirely cut NPC character, receive a special drink and get entirely new conversations from otherwise familiar characters. I hope you found the interesting!

Seems this was cut very late into development. Also the concept of a "dream realm" still exists in the game in the form of Lichdragon Fortissax, who is stuck inside the "Deathbed Dream" along with Godwyn.

Entering Fia's(?) dream always seemed like such a weird, out of place detail, it being a single instance of what used to be a whole system makes a lot more sense

I could totally see this as an intro quest for the DLC. If Miquella is still alive, but unresponsive, "sleeping" in the mausoleum, his cocoon could totally be used to access a DLC of his dreams.
Plus, to capture dreams they mention St. Trina's crystal ball, so there's another connection there.

I know the chances are very slim since they didn't do it in the other games, but honestly I'd love to see more cut content re-added in like with Jar Bairn, either through updates or DLC; all of the cut NPC's and quests I've read about sound so cool, it'd be a shame if they went completely unused.

This does bring to mind all the slightly remote locations in the game where you go to explore only to be rewarded with either nothing, or just a piece of rock or a rare plant if you're lucky. Many of those spots felt like they were "too big" to be left this empty.

I love that Kale's dream is still consistent with the final lore. Most merchants turned to the Flame of Frenzy

In consecrated snowfield, the crabs there actually breathe sleep gas

Your fear made flesh!"

Oh wow, so Sekiro's alcohol mechanic was going to see a return in Elden Ring? But instead of several different drinks for only three NPCs, it would have been one type of drink for over a dozen NPCs.

This whole dream thing and St Trina stuff could go really well for a DLC, with a big new area being a dream realm or something

shame this had to be cut to fit the 492th ulcerated tree spirit

Man I really hope all the stuff related to St. Trina / Miquella makes it into DLC... This whole Dreambrew mechanic is amazing. I'm actually somewhat hopeful, as it seems the amount of stuff pulled out or otherwise not touched on is so vast, it couldn't be anything but DLC at this point.

Chances/prayer circle this questline pops back up in the Miquella focused dlc by how complete it is

Can you bring attention to the relation between cut content and Shadow of the Erdtree? Like the Dreambrew questline... Like that Ricco is Igon who's a scavenger... Like Igon's armor reads... But asks you to gather ingredients, that Moore himself gathers in game, to make Thiollier's concoction, that
Thiollier actually asks for in game. The ingredients asked for here are likely being the black syrup. Ironically enough the Dreambrew would be used to put an NPC to sleep in the form of the Ancient dragon priestess, but for loot not lore unfortunately.

So I'm short, this Igon seems to be a scavenger (not Moore) infatuated with St.Trina (not Bayle) with alchemical skill/knowledge to get closer to St.Trina (not Thiollier) who asks you to obtain ingredients (not black syrup) with a crystal ball (looking akin to Thiollier's concoction) to extract dreams to concoct a Dreambrew item (functioning akin to Thiollier's concoction)

That's touches on at least a whole 1/3 of Shadow of the Erdtree right there

There is still a dragon in farum azula that sleeps like this you can chill next to him. I could image setting a special dream mist from the dragon

This is exactly the Sekiro alcohol story mechanics with all characters. There were 3-4? Different alcohols and Monkey booze basically gave you the biggest back stories for each NPC you could give it to.

But yeah its just this dream thing is a variation. Instead of getting drunker they sleep and instead of them telling you, its you seeing/reading their dream.

I honestly think this feature was great and wish it was still in!

The most glaring omission is the dream cutscene - I wonder if that's the piece that didn't come together in time.

It's sad, but without all the pieces, the whole thing falls apart.

Now that we know almost for certain that SotE will have some Miquella focus, this mechanic has a high chance of coming back.

I wonder if this could be related or have been replaced with Seluvis' potion side quests involving Nepheli and/or the Dung Eater.
Even the Amber Potion for intended use on Ranni might bear some procured resemblance as the Amber shard is found in the Altus Plateau and that's where we come across our first perfumer book as well as ingredients required to craft them.
Seluvis mentions that his potions are concocted from the finest ingredients and it's not much of a reach to assume the pervy ventriloquist would use such methods to keep his collection (including Perfumers and Omenkillers) asleep, or even collect their unconscious dreams for worse desires.
Lastly you can get Dolores from Seluvis, an archer puppet who uses St Trina sleep arrows.
