Double knitting is an amazing colorwork technique that creates a reversible fabric in two colors. While the basic technique is rather simple, a lot of knitters struggle with the cast on. So, this video will show you 4 different way to cast on double knitting depending on the circumstances and your individual skill level.
The invisible cast on for double knitting is based on the Italian cast on, and is quite a bit fiddly. The two-colored double knitting cast on is based on the purlwise cast on and creates a firmer edge. And then, of course, you can also just do the standard longtail cast on and only start double knitting the first round.
If you want to knit two (socks) at a time, your best solution is casting on twice and then slipping the stitches to one needle.

Thank you so much for this. I really like the long tail cast on knit and purl alternating mathod. I never heard of the term "long tail cost on purl wise" before. This was so helpful. I now use that cast on for two color brioche too. I like it a lot more than the italian cast one. It's more sturdy and I love the look.

I just recently discovered your channel, and I love it! I’m a fairly experienced knitter, but I’ve been watching videos of things I know how to do, because I keep learning some little tip or trick that no one told me about before ❤

I do want to add that I “invisibly” cast on for double knitting by doing a 2-color Magic Cast on and then sliding the stitches onto a single needle. It’s a little tedious, but the invisible way you showed is too fiddly for me, so I had to come up with something that didn’t get messed up on my needles😂
