Would love to see some in depth navigation on the Overlander working with explore, uploading gpx's from Basecamp etc, making tracks visible and hiding them, navigating from "where to" using gpx tracks etc. 👍
Also, when you record a track, there is no way to export it out, it says "this feature is not yet supported" that sucks 😞 Wonder if there is a workaround???

Awesome videos on this comparision! I have the Overlander plus GPSMAP 66I (wanted Explorer+ but Garmin has discontinued it quietly ~ not been on sale for MONTHS now in australia ~ in order to make Tread Overland make sense) is what I have. $1, 500 combined instead of $2, 200 like this Tread Overland.

Backup camera is important if you tow a caravan, off road trailer or touring trailer, find it hugely useful.

Also a seperate (and backup) map device in the GPSMAP 66i means worst case takes place (Overland breaks somehow) while I'm in the dessert I can still navigate.

Also ANYTIME I leave the car the GPSMAP 66i is with me so I always have inReach instead of the possibility of dying in the dessert.

I think a video chatting about if it's actually sane or silly for Garmin to more than double the price, remove some features (voice and Rear view ~ big deals) but add other features (tread standard group radio chat... which does that matter when most 4WD guys have CBs and need them?)... a total "Is this thing worth it 'really'?" video.

I'll be honest that the Tread Overland makes NO sense to me. In every way bar some software tweaks, a wider screen and an insane price.... it's a downgrade in overall features, backup~ability (devices break), flexibility (walk away from car and still have SOS and SMS) than an Overland and GPSMAP 66i.

Also what cheek to update the software for the Tread Overland and not release a proper (meaningful) update for the Overlander. These are all Android apps running on an android tablet. Garmin... don't start making your customers hate you, don't be evil.

Thanks for the videos, man. Seems like the tread is the better way to go but i may just get the base tread as i dont see the reason to take the $1k jump for the overland edition that doesnt do much more

Thanks for the video! One question: is possible to lock the device with a code so when it is stolen it cannot be used?

Nice vid mate, just wondering how you get to your explore library on the tread?

thanks for the vid
i have been thinking of getting the tread, we hunt a lot and need to add waypoints quick and easily name them and nav back to them from an open paddock (no roads/tracks) - will it do "as the crow flies" or try and nav to a road ??
we have only ever used marine garmin gpsmap units as they do this task very well.
they should make it with out inreach as im not going to carry it in my back pocket..

I am due to do a Rallye in Marokko in the dunes. So no signals and different kinds of maps needed. They Rallye is based on GPX locations you get at the start and have to make a route from it and navigate to these waypoint. The one who does this the fastest / smartest is the winner. What in your opinion is the best system to work for works this?

I’m yet to see a digital map that I would consider worth the dollars, $700 is a lot of money for a fancy look at me item that doesn’t do what you want and more often than not incorrect mapping in remote areas . Thanks for posting these vids as your pros and cons are most useful, I’ll be sticking to paper maps til these digital units lift their game . 👍

Garmin taking the piss with the Tread price at nearly $2k. So they’ve included the inReach which was always a complaint by users needing the seperate device but then removed other features. InReach mini 2 is less than $500 retail and that’s in a standalone package, integrating the tech would be a minor cost to production

Some in depth navigation differences would be great!

Got the overlander. The software is just horrible. The build quality is nice. But the Explore web service is like something from 20 years ago. Never going to give garmin another Euro.

I just bought the overlander and I'm totally disappointed. The off-road maps are terrible half the tracks are missing or totally wrong. And the tracks that are there don't have names on them or a named incorrectly. The graphics look like they were done on a computer 30 years ago. Google Maps is 1000 times better than this and the mounting crap. So disappointed waste of money

The title is "What's the Difference?" The video is 3/4 of what is similar. Worthless video for those of us want to decide which will fit our needs.
2 thumbs down!!
