1981 August 1 - MTV Launches

35 years ago MTV redefined how we see and hear music forever.

Being born in 1968 gave me the opportunity to experience the best decade of my life. Many people younger than me said they wish the 80s decade was a part of their lifetime.

This is the MTV my parents would remember. Mom was 19 while dad was 20 during the channel's launch.

😔 MTV was awesome! I miss the early 90's, and it's one of the big reasons for missing that decade! Wish I was born in the 70's so I could fully appreciate the whole experience, 80's on

Getting close to that 40 year mark, when MTV started. I remember it well, just like it was, and still should be. Back in the day when it was great, wall to wall music videos 24/7, 365 all day all night, nonstop music videos, and hooked into my quadraphonic music system.

For those that still finds a true MTV experience nowdays...

For the US audiences: MTV Classic and MTV Live still exists and broadcasts music 24/7 (MTV Classic still broadcasts music from past decades and MTV Live is the same 80's MTV schedule with today's music).

For Overseas: MTV Europe is broadcasting for Europe and Overseas MTV Hits EU, MTV Live EU (in HD in most of the countries), Club MTV (a 24/7 version of Party Zone) and MTV 80's/90's/00's Europe for the nostalgic ones.

Also, some countries have their local version of MTV Music, for those people that want to watch the VJ's.

Almost 40 years ago, we actually saw music videos, and only music videos on MTV. That's how it started in 1981, now there is NO music on Music Television (MTV). Go figure.

And then the video for the song “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the Buggles played. MTV got its name because it originally only played music videos (and was probably supposed to outshine radio programming altogether).
